Shallow Hearts

Here is shallow soil that gives enough initial depth so the seed can germinate, and the plant can break the surface. Jesus describes the people in this category as those that hear the word of God and immediately respond with emotion: with joy, they’re excited at the prospect of God intervening in their life. Jesus is giving us a peak behind the curtain: Because he, in essence, is saying, ‘Don’t be fooled, just because someone responds initially with joy doesn’t mean that a root system has taken hold.’
